Fueling A Sustainable Future
We don’t just talk about sustainability - we take action, because we believe that creating a better world for generations to come starts today.
Working Toward Zero Waste
Robust Recycling
We recycle cardboard, metal, paper, glass, and accepted plastic products, and we recycle uncommon items—such as batteries and printer cartridges—wherever possible.
Proactive Prevention
We use tracking and forecasting tools to proactively identify food waste trends in order to alter our preparation accordingly.
Showcasing Our Local Partner Relationships
Shepherd University Hospitality sources food from local farmers, growers, and distributors when available. Our partners change throughout the year depending on seasonality and availability.
Tabler Student Farm, Shepherdstown, WV
The Tabler Student Farm currently operates a 1-acre mixed fruit and vegetable production plot, a food forest, an indoor hydro/aquaponics system, a small bee apiary and (soon!) an indoor mushroom growing operation. All agricultural practices on this farm adhere to organic guidelines and prioritize soil regeneration. The farm is a student-run demonstration and educational farm part of the Shepherd University Agricultural Innovation Center (SUAIC), which focuses on small-scale sustainable agricultural production and agricultural business management.
